Accessibility

Our commitment to making The Alexander welcoming online and in person.

Our commitment.

The Alexander is committed to making this website usable by as many guests as possible, including those who use screen readers, keyboard navigation, voice control, or other assistive technologies. We aim to meet the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) 2.1 at the AA level across the site.

Accessibility is not a one-time project. We review the site regularly, fix issues as we find them, and welcome feedback from anyone who runs into a barrier.

What we do.

We design pages with sufficient color contrast for body text and interface elements. We write meaningful alt text for photographs of the building, the food, and our spaces. We mark up the site with semantic HTML so screen readers can move through it predictably. We test that every interactive element — links, buttons, the event inquiry form — works with a keyboard alone, and we keep visible focus indicators in place. We avoid auto-playing audio and we keep motion and parallax effects off.

Known limitations.

We are not aware of any blocking accessibility issues on the site at this time. If you encounter one — a control that doesn't respond to your keyboard, an image without useful alt text, copy that's hard to read at your zoom level, or anything else — please let us know. We treat accessibility reports as bugs and prioritize them accordingly.

Some content on the site links out to third-party platforms — Tock for reservations, Resy for select event ticketing, Google Maps for directions. We cannot guarantee those external sites meet the same standards, but we work to ensure the path to them on our site is clean.

Accessibility in the building.

The Alexander is housed in an 1880s Victorian mansion. The main entrance is reached by a ramp from the parking lot. There are steps inside the building between levels. An accessible restroom is located on the main floor. Some private event spaces involve stairs — please ask when you book and we will help you choose a room that fits your needs.

If you have a specific accommodation request — a reserved accessible parking space, a service animal joining you, dietary restrictions, table-height preferences, or anything else — call us at (585) 287-6933 when you make your reservation, or note it in the event inquiry form, and we will plan around it.

Hit a wall on the site? Found a step we missed? Tell us — we want to hear about it. The fastest way to reach us is email.
